1. General Rules 1. General Rules 1.1 The Junk Kouture Recycled Fashion Competition is organised by Junk Kouture Ltd. by whose decision on all matters relating to the Competition will be final.1.2 If you make the city final the cost of  travel to attend the event will not be covered. Entries and all associated documentation must be submitted via the Junk Kouture app which is available to download for all creators and educators on both Apple and Android mobile devices. Please access the app store on your mobile device to download this. Design teams are required to submit their design when the relevant competition submission window opens on the app.1.3 An application will not be considered for judging unless all parts of the application process are completed on the app.1.4 Creators and educators are encouraged to start their Junk Kouture journey from September 2021. From January 2022, teams across each individual territory will be required to submit an entry at the time relevant to their individual competition on the JK app. Please note that each territory will have a two-week window to submit a design. Under no circumstances will late entries be accepted. Please note that Junk Kouture Operations Ireland Ltd. also reserves the right to extend the competition window if it deems a requirement. Please visit the competition page relevant to your territory on junkkouture.com1.5 Creators must be in education or an approved club and aged between 13-18 at the time of design submission.  1.6 Creators can win the title of Junk Kouture World Designer of the Year on more than one occasion. Previous winners of the title are eligible to re–enter the competition in subsequent years if they remain in second level education and are between 13 and 18 years old at the time of design submission.1.7 Designs that have been entered in other competitions can be accepted as entries to the Junk Kouture Recycled Fashion Competition, provided that this information is stated in the application entry at time of submission and provided there is no third-party restriction on entry. If you wish to declare additional information about this, please contact 1.8 Submission of a design will not ensure the acceptance of a design as a finalist for the live final in their individual territory. In the initial stage of selection, a panel of screening judges will select the designs to go forward to the live finals and the judges’ decisions are final.For Ireland, in the initial stage of selection, a panel of screening judges will select the designs to go forward to the regional finals (5 x regional finals), followed by those entrants that are announced as City Finalists after each regional final event.For all remaining territories, there will only be one city final in each. Regional finals do not apply. The top ten designs selected from each city final will advance on to the Junk Kouture World Final which will take place later in 2022 (date tbc).Please also note that the number of City Finalists may vary depending on location (this is subject to change as the competition progresses and at the discretion of Junk Kouture Operations Ireland Limited.1.9 Creators  taking part in Junk Kouture 2022 will be entered into the competition that is relevant to them and where they live. From this, the City Finalists will progress to one Junk Kouture World Final from which various award winners will be selected.1.10 We anticipate that live events will take place across all six territories in 2022.  However, we reserve the right to offer an alternative event if deemed necessary. 2. Educator Registration 2. Educator Registration 2.1 Educators are invited to join the Junk Kouture community by creating a member account on the Junk Kouture app from September 2021. By joining the community, this allows for the user to post updates on their profile and keep up to date with Junk Kouture and other community members. There is no requirement to join the app until the competition design submission window opens for each territory. At sign up, you agree to Junk Kouture’s T&Cs and this confirms that Educators have relevant formal documentation required for working with young people.2.2 At time of design submission, an educator is required to be associated with a design team. Should a design team be selected as a regional/city finalist; the registered Educator will be required to attend the live event with the team. Educators will be required to show/supply the relevant formal documentation to confirm Educator status in advance or upon arrival to the live event.   The assigned Educator is responsible for the design team when it comes to any live event participation. Further information around the requirements will be supplied to educators in advance of these events. Junk Kouture will formally communicate with the educators only via email/app.2.3 Any adult can be an Educator if they have undergone the appropriate training to allow them to work with minors. If a design team is successful the educator will be requested to submit relevant documentation i.e., teaching ID, police clearance etc.2.4 It is the responsibility of the Educator to communicate any information relating to the competition to their students. Junk Kouture communicates directly and formally with Educators only.2.5 It is the responsibility of the Educator to communicate any changes relating to the design team to Junk Kouture. This can be done by contacting3. Participant Registration 3. Participant Registration 3.1 Creators are invited to join the Junk Kouture community by creating a member account on the Junk Kouture app from September 2021. All registration and sign up is done via the Junk Kouture app Creators are required to be at least 13 and up to 18 years old at the time of their design submission.3.2  Creator Registration must include the below information: – Name of the city you wish to participate in. For example, if you live in Mayo, Ireland, you will enter the Dublin competition. Similarly, if you live in Florence, Italy, you will enter the Milan competition. – Design name, team member names (maximum of three team members). One creator will take the responsibility of being the Team Lead. Once all information is submitted on the application page on the app, this person will add further team members and the Educator to the team.Invite will be sent to selected users via app to join your team. School information is also required – name and location.– Design Description: this should include the idea and inspiration behind the creation, listing materials, how it was made, how it promotes sustainability, key messages. We encourage students to be creative and narrative here – telling a compelling story about their couture design. – Design materials: all materials used must be included. Please emphasise any detail which you think the judges need to know. For example – collecting 50,000 ring pulls, or shredding and crocheting seatbelts etc. – Photographs: clear images of the design must be included. One image must display the design in its entirety. Creators can upload up to 10 images. Be creative with the images – try to avoid cluttered backgrounds/backdrops – focus on the design. – Team video: Attach a link to a video you have created (and or added to YouTube) – max of 60 seconds long. Clip should show the fine detail of the design, show the materials used, tell us about the inspiration, show your performance – please ensure video is in landscape orientation. – Music link: Add a link to the song of choice. This will complement the finished design and finalists will be requested to supply JK with the correct section starting/ending point within the link provided. The link should be from Spotify or Apple music streaming platforms 3.3  All sections of the design submission page must be completed for your application to be successfully submitted and to be included in the competition. 3.4 Junk Kouture designs must be submitted as either an individual or team application via the Junk Kouture app. Junk Kouture will not accept any other form of applications.3.5  A creator can only enter one design into the competition, whether they are entering as an individual or as part of a team.3.6 Teams can consist of a maximum of 3 people. (This includes the person who is modelling the design)3.7 Individual designs may be submitted in the competition and once submitted cannot be re–classified as a team submission (i.e., no further team members can be added).3.8 To enter the competition all team members must be registered on the JK app. One member of each team will be responsible for submitting all the relevant information required for competition entry when this opens. The other team members will be sent an invite by this person to join the team. The final application should reflect the co-ordinated efforts of all registered team members.           3.9 In exceptional circumstances, teams may wish to decrease or increase the number of people participating in their design team (max 3 students). Any such proposed changes need to be requested to Junk Kouture via the Junk Kouture platform by emailing detailing the proposed change(s) and the exceptional circumstances necessitating them. Along with this, all users must be registered on the app prior to this. Failure to do so will lead to the proposed changes being rejected and the design being judged in the original grouping in which it was entered. Junk Kouture’s decision as to whether such changes are acceptable will be final.3.10 It is expected that most of the work for a design will be conducted in school, home, or the outside environment (i.e., after-school club). Designers should seek guidance and advice when creating their entry, however the final design must be created and completed only by the designers involved.3.11 It is a requirement for all team members to be from the same organisation (i.e. school, after school club), and the information of this must be included at the time of submission.3.12 Creators are responsible for the promotion of their design. This can be done online or in person in their local area.3.13 Creators must refrain from making statements and claims in person or online that may bring Junk Kouture, the competition and relevant stakeholders, into disrepute. Failure to do so, will result in expulsion from the competition.3.14 Junk Kouture will use a creator’s personal information only as set out in its’ privacy notice which can be found here .  If a creator wishes to access their personal data, delete, or update information, they can do so by contacting Junk Kouture.3.15 Junk Kouture communicates directly with the assigned educator. This is done so through the Junk Kouture app/email. Should a student have any queries relating to the competition we request that they bring these to the attention of the educator, who then is responsible for contacting Junk Kouture.4. MATERIALS 4. MATERIALS 4.1 All materials used by creators must be recycled or repurposed or unfit for their intended original purpose. New materials are prohibited.4.2 All materials used must be safe to model and exhibit, and must not contain any pyro, toxic or dangerous materials. Should a designer be unsure about the nature of their materials having initially consulted their assigned educator, they should consult Junk Kouture by email 4.3 Creators are prohibited from using any alcohol, tobacco or drugs branding or packaging unless these are being used to promote the harmful effects of misuse. Creators should highlight the messaging in the description section of the submission application.4.4 Designs that have been entered into Junk Kouture in previous years will not be accepted unless the design has undergone significant further development and enhancement. Reference of this should be included at point of entry on the design description section.4.5 Models must wear appropriate undergarments under designs when modelling their design for the competition submission and performing at the filming day.5. City Finalists 5. City Finalists The below, are applicable only to designs qualifying for a city final. Additional ‘Event Rules’ must be accepted by qualifying designers before they can take part in the event.  These will be provided on notification of qualification.5.1 Upon being selected as a city finalist, the assigned educator will be required to confirm acceptance of having their design team included in the event with Junk Kouture.  5.2 Design teams will be responsible for providing additional content to Junk Kouture about their design in advance of the show. There will be specific guidelines to adhere to for show production.   5.3 Creators will be responsible for their own hair and make-up and any design requirements in advance of the show i.e., alterations and fixings.5.4 Junk Kouture will not accept responsibility for damage to, or loss of, design materials or personal belongings. Creators are advised to remove all valuable items from the backstage in advance of the live show.5.5 Creators may be required to travel to a filming/event location within their territory for a filming day in advance of a city final. Details of this requirement will be provided to each team in advance of the event.5.6 It is the responsibility of the educator and team to facilitate own travel and arrangements to the filming/event location.  5.7 Junk Kouture will ensure that there is at least two weeks’ notice of any event, and should a design team be unable to travel to the allocated filming/event day, they will have to forfeit their place in the city final.5.8 It is the responsibility of the assigned educator to attend the filming/event day with the design team.5.9 All teams will be required to sign a filming/photography permissions form in advance.6. junk kouture World Final 6. junk kouture World Final 10 City Finalists from each territory will progress to the Junk Kouture World Final later in 2022. Additional information, terms and conditions about this will follow.7. JUDGING PROCESS 7. JUDGING PROCESS 7.1 The judges are responsible for the selection of finalists and winners. These decisions are final.7.2 The judges reserve the right to withhold awards in the event of designs not reaching satisfactory design standard and live performance.7.3 The judges reserve the right to withhold awards and exclude designs if designers have not adhered to the rules and regulations of the Junk Kouture competition.8. Voting 8. Voting 8.1 In advance of a city final/world final, public voting may take place for the Audience Choice Award in each territory. This will be done so via the Junk Kouture app. Further details of this will follow where required. This award will be subject to its own rules and regulations.8.2 Voters must be registered on the app to vote. Further Information around this to follow.9. City Final Award Winners 9. City Final Award Winners 9.1 The top ten City Finalists from each territory will be announced after each City Final and will progress to the Junk Kouture World Final later in 2022. These designers will come from ten individual schools and will be presented with a specially commissioned piece post announcement. At the World Final there are multiple awards which designers can be considered for to win plus the title of Junk Kouture World Designer of the Year.9.2 The overall Junk Kouture World Designer of the year may not represent any other organisation until the following year’s winners are announced.9.3 Award winners must consent for Junk Kouture to access their design for company purposes where required for up to 12 months post competition9.4 At a City Final the following may also apply:– College Bursaries (territory specific)– Audience Choice Award (territory specific)10. World Final Awards 10. World Final Awards 10.1 At the World Final event, Junk Kouture will award prizes for the following:– Junk Kouture World Designer of the Year– Junk Kouture City Designer(s) of the Year  There will be six City Designers of the Year announced and from these one overall World Designer of the Year. These are announced at the World Final.– Junk Kouture Glamour Award– Junk Kouture Purposeful Plastic Award– Junk Kouture Junior Award– Junk Kouture Performance Award– Junk Kouture Make Up Award– Junk Kouture Innovation Award– Junk Kouture Cultural Couture Award– Junk Kouture Wearable Art Award– Junk Kouture Dare to Wear Award– Junk Kouture Enterprise AwardThe full list and details of prizes and awards will be made available to Educators and Creators. These can be accessed on the Junk Kouture website.10.2 All prizes will be sent to the winning design teams after the event. These will be sent to the school address supplied at submission.10.3 The prize fund for the Junk Kouture World Designer of the Year (Overall Winner) will be paid by bank transfer to the individual accounts supplied.10.4 Junk Kouture will hold a presentation with the World Designer of the Year – details to be confirmed post event.10.4 Junk Kouture will hold a presentation with the World Designer of the Year – details to be confirmed post event.10.5 Junk Kouture shall endeavor to send all prizes and pay all prize monies in accordance with and subject to these rules within 30 days of the announcement, but Junk Kouture shall have no liability for failure to pay monies on or before such date.10.6 Please note that due to the ongoing changes to COVID-19 restrictions and travel restrictions (territory-specific), we will monitor changes and accommodate travel (as part of a prize) where we can. Should travel not be available, an alternative prize will be provided to the relevant winners.10.7 Should opportunity arise at a later stage for Junk Kouture to attend/host an event, we will make sure to get in touch with prize winners11. PHOTOGRAPHS / VIDEOS 11. PHOTOGRAPHS / VIDEOS 11.1 Junk Kouture requires that creators give consent at time of application for use of design images. Junk Kouture retains the right to use any design photographs or video content uploaded by creators on the app in the Junk Kouture competition in accordance with our privacy notice. This content can be used in productions relating to the competition across JK platforms. Should creators wish to opt out of this, they should notify Junk Kouture by email by contacting 11.2 Junk Kouture reserves the right to use images/videos from any Junk Kouture events for promotional and marketing purposes, both online and in print, in accordance with its’ privacy notice.  Junk Kouture is under no obligation to make use of any photos taken at the events.11.3 Junk Kouture retains the right to publish information regarding all designs entered the Junk Kouture competition in accordance with our privacy policy.12. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTy 12. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTy 12.1 Design content and materials remains the property of the designers but must be made available for Junk Kouture for publication or exhibition purposes for up to 12 months post competition. At times, Junk Kouture will reach out to past participants outside of the 12 months for use of their design. 11.2 Design content and materials must be made available for use by Junk Kouture partners and sponsors when required for up to 12 months post-competition. In these cases, design teams will be issued no fewer than 14 days notice prior to the event. All partners must hold relevant insurances for use of designs.13. Our Sustainability approach 13. Our Sustainability approach On entering the 2021 – 2022 Junk Kouture competition, design teams will agree to any of the following regarding the reuse, recycling or repurposing of their design once they submit to the competition. While there is a request for winning designs to be accessible for 12 months post competition, year on year there are so many incredible Junk Kouture designs, and we want to know that responsible actions are taken when the competition ends.– Design teams agree to donate their design to Junk Kouture for use at future events – please email [email protected] should you wish to donate your design (including name, school and image of design)– Design teams agree to donate their design to their school or to a local organisation for pursposeful use or learning activity– Design teams commit to the responsible recycling of a design14. PARTNERS / SPONSORS 14. PARTNERS / SPONSORS 14.1 Participants may be subject to promotional activity from partners / sponsors. This activity must be approved by Junk Kouture beforehand, with designers and educators being informed of this prior.14.2 Participants will not be subject to any unlawful promotions, or indeed, be required to partake in promotional activity deemed unsuitable by Junk Kouture. These cases will be examined on a case-by-case basis by Junk Kouture.15. RESPECT FOR JUNK KOUTURE VALUES 15.
