WEBIntermediate Disturbance Hypothesis. The intermediate disturbance hypothesis (IDH) posits that species richness (and diversity) at the local scale peaks at (1) intermediate values of disturbance frequency, (2) intermediate times after a disturbance, and (3) at intermediate spatial extents of disturbance (Grime, 1973; Horn, 1975; Connell, 1978 ).
