WEBFeb 27, 2024 · Definition: Scientific Notation. A number is written in scientific notation when it is expressed as a number between \ (1\) and \ (10\) that is multiplied by a power of 10. As an example, we could write. \ [37,200,000,000,000 = 3.72 \times 10^ {13}\] The exponent on the 10 tells you how many places the decimal point has been moved.
